Introduction

As an effort to create full awareness and involve our academic community in up-to-date global issues, we are motivating students towards thorough research and total immersion into the topic of global warming and thus elicit a personal standpoint enabling them to take action.

The first part of the project is getting students to read about the topic and comprehend what our planet is being affected by, how, why, and what can be done to stop it. After this, the most prepared students will be asked to participate in a Model United Nations Forum.

Each group will be allocated to present at a Model United Nations Forum. At the forum, they will present, debate and discuss their allocated countries views on pollution and climate change. Some themes to explore are the causes of global warming and pollution; how this affects not only their country but the whole world; what measures have been taken to limit carbon emissions and pollution already and what new measures can be put into place; how these will affect the economy and standard of living in these countries; what kind of global agreement can be reached. The recent UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen can and should be used as a reference point.

Each group will be represented by one or two students who will discuss these issues with their high school peers in the forumEach group representative will have time to present an overview of their position, which should be followed by an open discussion of these issues, debating measures to limit climate change and strongly supporting their allocated countries position. The aim should be for all the countries to reach an agreement on a measure that can be taken.
